The competition was as hot as the weather at the 2011 renewal of the AdequanFEIJunior Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) presented by Gotham North and held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington at the end of July. Temperatures and humidity levels soared into the upper nineties each day causing concerns about horse and rider welfare. Coats were waived in the competition ring and every precaution was taken to ensure the safety of all competitors - horses and riders.

The 2011 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, presented by Bridgestone, was full of firsts: a new cross-country course designer (Derek di Grazia); a new leader at the helm of the organizing body for Rolex Kentucky, Equestrian Events Incorporated or EEI, (Christina Gray); the first time the same rider had won both first and second place (Mary King of Great Britain); the first time a reining competition had been held in conjunction with the Rolex event (the $50,000 Ariat Kentucky Cup CRI5* and the $25,000 Tarter Farm and Ranch Equipment World Championship Freestyle Reining), and the first Rolex Ride The Course Media Trail Ride, just to name a few.
